Magazine Project Research - Cosmopolitan (Fashion)

       The magazine that I decided to use was a 2017 Cosmopolitan  Magazine. The genre of the magazine is predominantly fashion and style. The colors featured on the magazine are blue and red. They are these colors, because it is intended to match the featured person on the cover. They use these for the sub-headlines as well. The kinds of articles included in the magazine are various types of clothing, perfumes and make-up. Usually in traditional magazines, celebrities are found wearing the couture clothes, in the hopes that people will buy it if popular celebrities are wearing it. But I noticed that in this magazine edition, there are models featured in the magazine that are wearing the couture clothes. Like for example, on page 34 there is an advice article written by TV commentator Gretchen Carlson. But on the next page, there is a random picture of two girls modeling Vera Bradley clothes and bags. The magazine doesn't really have a structure to it's advertising; it's just included. The ads of clothes, perfume and make-up are sprinkled in everywhere; in the beginning, middle and end. The cover photo is a picture of actress, Hailee Steinfeld. Inside the magazine is where she will be sharing her "Hot Sex Diaries" and will tell about when she feels "the sexiest". The pictures included in the table of contents are pictures of models, handbags, lipstick and crystal, bedazzled wine holder. All things for women benefit. The magazine reported that the U.S. paid circulation of Cosmopolitan magazine is 3,032,211 issues per month. Cosmopolitan won the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Magazine Overall Coverage in 2016. 

Magazine Project Research - GQ (Fashion)

     
     The magazine that I decided to use was a 2017 GQ Magazine. The genre of the magazine is predominantly fashion and style. The colors featured on the magazine are blue and red. They used these colors, because those are the colors of the GQ logo, so they kept the same trend for this edition. The kinds of articles included in the magazine are various types of designer couture. A celebrity will have the specific clothes or shoes and the article will feature them. Like for example, on page 43 of the magazine, Lady Gaga is shown wearing a "Tudor" watch. Most of the advertisements featured are clothing. Things like Dior, Gucci, Saint Laurent, Ralph Lauren, Michael Kors, Dolce & Gabbana and etc. These are all at the beginning of the magazine, so you can probably infer that the magazine does this to lure the readers in. On the cover, it is a huge picture of NBA player, Kevin Durant. In subtext, it says "Champion of the Year", so the readers can infer that he did something big for his Golden State Warriors team to be featured on the cover. They also include the featured "cover stars", like for example Colin Kaepernick. He will inside the magazine. There are no pictures included in the Table of Contents. The magazine reported that the U.S. paid circulation of GQ magazine is 824,334 issues per month. In 2017, GQ was nominated for the James Beard Award for Food Coverage in a General-Interest Publication. 

Project Selection- My Decision

     After careful consideration, I have decided to write and publish a magazine. I ultimately chose this project, because I feel that I can adequately complete this. I have a passion for writing and information, so if I can provide that for people, that would be my first option.  Like I said previously, I have the fundamental skill of properly obtaining research and using it to my advantage. My general idea of my magazine is to primarily focus on the combination of music and fashion and how the two go hand in hand. I did this, because I love both of the genres, so I decided to combine them. I will be working solo in this project, because I work better alone and tend to focus and have complete control over my assignments. So, I will be obtaining the research and history, planning the context, setting up the photo shoots and completing the magazine by myself, hopefully with success. 

Project Selection- Film

     Based on my experience with the 1986 hit movie, "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" and its associated documentary, the aspects of film production that most appeals to me is the creation of the movie.  Like the actual concept of the storyline. It intrigues me, because I am in charge of what will be said and the actual message of the film. I like to come up with deep themes, thus getting my target audience to think. In addition to my creativeness, I have a very wild imagination. This skill will essentially add to the creative process, because it will give the viewers something to be entertained with. However, a challenge that may come up is finding an idea that is acceptable and meaningful. I also have a problem with perfection, so if my film isn't perfect, then it will ruin the process for me. Another contributing factor is the props. I don't have any items or connections to enhance the content of the film. This could be a problem, because it could hinder the viewers from being entertained.  

Project Selection- Magazine

     Based on my experience with the movie "All the President's Men", the aspects of print journalism that best appeals to me is the hustle of research. Even though the movie was based on a newspaper, I think that the research process is fairly the same. I believe that I posses the fundamental skill of properly obtaining the research and having a love for information.  Some people might argue that your own personal love for the topic doesn't matter, but I would disagree. My love for giving people information is a contributing factor in how I will passionately do the job and how I will be successful at it. I think the thing that will be a challenge for me is the fact that we can't use pictures from the internet. In the beginning, I was under the impression that we will have the freedom to use past pictures, but I was wrong. It's a factor, because my prior idea was to pay homage to past celebrities and now I can't even include celebrity singers and actors of the 80s and 90s period, because I have to personally take the pictures myself. And I understand why, so we can show that we can take the pictures, but it just puts a damper on my idea I was passionate about. But I do believe that I can find an idea to meet the expectations of a published writer.
